Dr. Philip Slonkosky
“Helping a child and parent have a positive experience in better understanding their health is what makes this job so rewarding.”
Growing up in Minster, Dr. Slonkosky was excited to return to join the TEAM at Minster Dental Care as their in-house Pediatric Dental Specialist. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Slonkosky attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, followed by a two-year Pediatric Dentistry Residency at the University of Kentucky. During his pediatric training, he began training in orthodontics and has continued his education since that time.
Dr. Slonkosky is a specialist in Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is also a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Patients and parents commonly refer to him as ‘Dr. Philip’ as his last name can be a challenge for a three-year-old to pronounce.
Having the opportunity to practice at Minster Dental Care with such a talented TEAM has allowed Dr. Slonkosky to advance the science and practice of pediatric dentistry in new and exciting ways. He continues to research and explore the latest materials and science surrounding the practice of both dentistry and medicine in general. In 2014 he founded a Consulting/Continuing Education business, Pediatric Dental Directions (PDDx.us), with his long time pediatric dental mentor, Dr. Robert Elliott (Who currently practices in Carey, NC), which has allowed him to speak and present nationally on topics related to pediatric dentistry, business, TEAM building, and leadership.
Dr. Slonkosky’s most immediate interests lie in understanding the human microbiome and how it relates to our overall health. The advancements in our understanding of the human microbiome shows amazing promise in helping to explain many of the challenging questions we face in both dentistry and medicine.
Dr. Slonkosky and his wife, Courtney (an OB/Gyn at Wilson Memorial Hospital) have four children, 6 and under, that keep them quite busy after office hours. When he has a free moment, Dr. Slonkosky enjoys running, anything that has to do with fly-fishing, Playmobil model trains, and photography.
